Synopsis
Each week, a son visits his eccentric father on a beautiful island. They fly kites on a beach where sea and air flow together in a watercolour wash. The father captivates his son, telling stories about a land called Magonia. Three magical tales, which touch the boy’s soul. Together they build a kite in the form of a Moganian flying ship and let their imaginations soar. The tales carry them over minarets and mosques, into the desert and out to sea. A woman cares for an old muezzin and falls in love with his young apprentice. An estranged couple encounters an old man and his son, sparking desires for human contact and freedom. In a fishing port ravaged by storms, a woman waits for the man she loves to return. Through these tales, the boy comes to see the world through his father’s eyes, understanding for the first time the older man’s passion and fragility. For both of them Magonia represents unattainable dreams and longings, and the possibility of escaping to a magical place beyond cloud.

"Une part du ciel" raconte la résistance de femmes détenues et d'un groupe d'ouvrières en usine. En prison, Joanna s'obstine à interroger le pouvoir qui l'enserre. Assujettie à la chaîne de production, Claudine est rattrapée par le passé qui la lie à Joanna. L'avocat de Joanna lui demande de témoigner sur ce qui a poussé son amie à la violence : accepter de témoigner serait dénoncer l'appareil syndical qui semble encore la protéger. Allers-retours entre l'usine et la prison. Entre l'intime et la politique. Joanna plie, craque puis trouve la force d'affirmer encore et toujours le droit à la dignité pour elle et pour les femmes qui l'entourent. Claudine se redresse. Elle accepte de témoigner, conduit la lutte dans l'usine, et rejoint la radicalité de Joanna. Elle refuse le compromis proposé par la structure syndicale, et assume son exclusion. Deux femmes se révèlent dans la valeur du refus et donnent à leur amitié la possibilité de renaître.
